Sore Eyes

I have been having problems recently with constant sore eyes and migraines. It's really starting to get on my nerves because I can't be outside in the sun or even in bright rooms. The only thing that seems to work is to lay down in the dark and close my eyes, which is very unproductive.

I find I constantly strain my eyes and the only way for me not to do this is to pretty much do nothing. Which is not going to happen.

So I've taken to wearing sunglasses in the house to try and minimise my light exposure. Right now I'm wearing sunglasses in my dark room on the computer (I must look pretty strange), but let me tell you it's helping! Bright light is really painful. Maybe I'm related to Edward Cullen?

As for the constant headaches and eye strain when I don't have a choice but to keep doing what I'm doing - I have yet to fins a solution. I will though!

Until then I will wear sunglasses indoors, and if somebody is boring me I can close my eyes and doze off and they won't even notice!

  1. Do you have a resource center for the blind/low vision near you with occupational therapists etc? We have one here in Wisconsin that has been a help to my husband. I think the thing with stargardts is that as long as your eyes can partially see, they will strain to do so. Eye drops that keep the eyes moisturized help with the pain a bit. I also think the headaches stem a bit from the anxiety component. We're working at finding the right medication for that. Some has helped. Praying you find some answers.

  2. HI Lisa Marie. We do have low vision centres, but I am having trouble with them mostly because no one really knows anything about SD. I recently bought eye drops that are doing wonders when I am at work. I must admit I am constantly on the computer or ipad or something so I probably need to lay off the technology a bit and just chill out!

  5. Yep. Social interaction is really the first to go when one gets sore eyes. Which is why it bugs me; it gets to a point where you can't even approach a relative to fetch you your stuff in the house. With all its attendant hindrances, it cannot be dismissed. We really should go 'heavy duty' with treating this thing, which means seeing a doctor or two immediately.
